Life Support Training Skills Programme

In line with our role as health care providers, HERD Foundation is committed to saving lives of critical patients. We urge every person working in healthcare sector and even laypersons to gain essential knowledge of life support skills. We know that early recognition and immediate life support intervention saves lives. It has therefore become a life’s mission for us to undertake Life Support Training Skills programme and to make them as widespread as possible.

For long now we have been conducting intensive trainings with our affiliated hospitals that provide wherewithal in terms of abilities and resources. As per documented records 63 such trainings have taken place from November 2014 up to December 2015. The duration of imparting these life saving skills usually ranges from 5 to 6 hours. Easily a day is obtainable to facilitate participants to be taught these basic life saving skills.

Over 2000 persons have been trained in Basic Life Saving Skills and these include staff nurses, students, teaching staff, non-medical staff, laypersons, policemen and even CRPF jawans. They have all received certification for training with due motivation to make good use of their skills in life-threatening situations. We have also conducted workshops outside the medical campus with the view to create public awareness about the need to hone abilities for saving people in fatal situations so as to revive them until a professional arrives on the scene.

We are delighted by the outcomes of the Life Support Training Skills Programme that has made it possible for even laypersons in their attempts to save lives of victims. HERD Foundation advanced the cause of such measures to make it clearly understood that every second is important in saving a victim. Any delay can decrease the chances of survival. These critical moments may not be lost in waiting for expert help. This is the reason all healthcare providers and others were taught how to support life until help arrives.

For instance, in the hospital setting a cardiac arrest is attended with requisite expertise. Not so in an unpredictable, sudden event outside the hospital. It is for this reason that we needed to create awareness for due responses in critical situations. HERD Foundation is preparing a module to provide knowledge and skills required to deal with life threatening emergencies. The module will share comprehensive information in simple, lucid language.
